The Punjab Basketball Association conveys heartiest congratulations to Sh. Satnam Singh Bhamra, 7’2” tall renowned international basketball player of Ludhiana Basketball Academy who has become the first Indian in the N.B.A . He has been selected by the Dallas Mavericks (2011 N.B.A. Champions).

He was born in a simple rural family at Balloke (Barnala). Satnam’s father Sh. Balbir Singh is 7’2” tall and mother Mrs. Sukhjinder Kaur is of normal height. The “Boy Wonder” was discovered by Punjab Basketball Association in 2003 and sent for training to Ludhiana Basketball Academy. At that time his age was 7 years and height 5’7”. At Ludhiana he was put into long hours of practice and fitness and skills by Dr. S. Subramanian, Director L.B.A. From 2003 to 2010 with hard work and dedication Satnam continued to develop under the guidance of Dr. Subramanian and S. Teja Singh Dhaliwal, Secy. General Punjab Basketball Academy.

At only fifteen years of age he became the youngest Indian basketball player to participate in the Senior Asian Basketball Championship 2011Wuhan and also participated in the 2013 A.B.C at Manila. He participated in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2013 Manila and also participated in the Junior Asian (u/16) Basketball Championship 2009 at Malaysia and 2011 at Vietnam. Representing Punjab he won Silver Medal in the Sr. National Basketball Championship 2013 at Ludhiana. He also won Silver Medal in the Junior National Basketball Championship 2013 at Cuttack. Dr. Subramanian has coached to Satnam Singh from 2003 to 2010.

In 2010 he was selected by IMG Reliance along with 7 other Indian youngsters to train at the IMG Basketball Academy at Florida, U.S.A. Indian foreign Coach Kenny Natt has also played an important role in shaping Satnam both in India and at the IMG Academy.

Satnam Singh is a great sportsman, very focused in basketball, always obedient to his Coach, dedicated, very hardworking, cheerful and friendly. He does not allow success to go to his head. He deserves his success!
